Samaritan Hospital opened its doors in 1898, at a time when major clinical and technological discoveries, such as x-rays, the electrocardiogram and new methods of diagnosis and treatment, were dramatically changing the way healthcare could be delivered. First located on Eighth Street in Troy, in the former Troy Orphan's Asylum, the hospital moved to its present location at the corner of Burdett and Peoples Avenues in the early 20th century.
